World War II veteran Walt Featheringham, who helped survey the damage and gather information after the atomic bombs hit Japan, will speak in the auditorium. Continental breakfast for area veterans and a ceremony. Speakers are Dr. W. Michael Sherman, UA senior vice president; and U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Copley. At 10 a.m. at the flagpole near Buchtel Hall, there will be a gun salute, wreath laying and speaker Salavatore Tersigni, formerly of the U.S. Army Reserves. From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Military Services Center will host a celebration for veterans and families in Musson Veterans Lounge on the third floor of InfoCision Stadium.9 a.m. to noon: Revere High School, 3420 Everett Road, Richfield Township. Speakers will be Mayor David Kline and Ron Oskar, a U.S. Army veteran and member of Warriors’ Journey Home. The program will then move outside to the Veterans Park area for a gun salute. The Tallmadge High School band will perform.10:30 a.m.: Green Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 Steese Road. Eric Mansfield, Iraq War veteran and WKYC anchor/reporter, will be keynote speaker. Music performed by several local school choirs and bagpipe musician Brian McElhinney. In front of the courthouse.11 a.m.: Copley Veterans Cemetery, 3700 Copley Road. Rifle salute and Taps, followed by dedication of the new 50-foot flagpole at the veterans section.11 a.m.: Broad Boulevard/Front Street, Cuyahoga Falls. Flag-raising ceremony, wreath ceremony and gun salute. Speaker will be Jack Cook, U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korean conflict.11 a.m.: Lake Anna Park, Barberton. Service at Military Honor Roll.11 a.m.: Medina County Home, 6144 Wedgewood Road, Lafayette Township. The Disabled American Veterans will perform a flag-raising ceremony in the front yard. They will join residents afterward for lunch and a time of fellowship. At 2 p.m., Hospice of the Western Reserve will officiate a recognition ceremony for four veterans in the activity room.11 a.m.: Stark County District Library, Jackson Township Branch, 7487 Fulton Drive NW. Honoring veterans, who are welcome to visit for coffee and doughnuts and an hour of fellowship and conversation with other servicemen and women.7 p.m.: The Historic Church of God, 147 N. Milton St., Smithville. Maj. Loren Kirchner, a doctor in internal medicine at Cleveland Clinic, Wooster, will speak. He recently served in Iraq and Afghanistan. An observance also will be held honoring each branch of the military.
